This article describes recent work to support recommendations for improving Ontario’s system of housing for people with serious mental illness. This multifaceted project engaged stakeholders in discussions concerning strategies for improving the system based on (a) values that underlie housing programs, (b) evidence of effective housing practices, (c) the current status of the system, and (d) international practices for monitoring community mental health systems. Stakeholders reviewed summaries of the work and discussed implications for improving the provincial system of housing and supports. Recommendations are made for improving the system, focusing on both regional and provincial level actions

Naval Option for the Caribbean: The US Coast Guard

    Get PDF
Caribbean countries and territories have become conspicuous in the United States\u27 discussions about areas of national interest. Cuba, of course, has been the subject of discussion for some time, but now it is not alone as an area of concern. Many of the Caribbean countries suffer from political instability, poverty, socioeconomic inequities, and local insecurity, all causing anxieties both in those countries and in our own, because these conditions could be exploited by radical elements wishing to establish C:ommunist governments in our hemisphere, The Soviet Union would, of course, be the ultimate benefactor for any such movements

Coping with the Drug Runners at Sea

For the third time in our century, the Navy and Coast Guard arc cooperating in an interdiction effort at sea. During Prohibition, the Coast Guard attempted to stifle the efforts of the rum-runners. To help out, the Navy loaned the Coast Guard more than a score of destroyers from its large fleet of idle warships. During the Vietnam war, Coast Guard cutters and patrol boats played a major role in the Navy\u27s Operation Market Time off the South Vietnamese coast, an apparently successful effort to frustrate enemy shipments of munitions to the Vietcong

A Comprehensive Evaluation Framework for Mental Health Consumer/Survivor Organizations: Values, Conceptualization, Design, and Action

    Get PDF
This article provides a framework for the evaluation of mental health consumer/ survivor organizations that consists of four main components: (a) participatory processes, (b) conceptualization of the activities and outcomes at the individual and systems levels of these organizations, (c) the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods for examining activities and outcomes, and (d) dissemination and action. We assert that these components form a comprehensive and holistic framework for evaluating mental health consumer/survivor organizations; we illustrate how these components can be put into action through a case study of four mental health consumer/survivor organizations in Ontario; and we reflect on the lessons that we have learned in conducting this evaluation

Event Structure at RHIC from p-p to Au-Au

Several correlation analysis techniques are applied to p-p and Au-Au collisions at RHIC. Strong large-momentum-scale correlations are observed which can be related to local charge and momentum conservation during hadronization and to minijet (minimum-bias parton fragment) correlations.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, 20th Winter Workshop on Nuclear Dynamics, Trelawny Beach, Jamaica, March 15-20, 200

    Get PDF
On March 26th, Darien Library hosted an event called “In the Foothills: A Not-Quite-Summit on the Future of Libraries” at which participants were instructed to “come prepared to help sketch out the role librarians should play in defining the future of libraries”. The two speakers, John Berry and Kathryn Greenhill, provoked a conversation among John Blyberg, Kathryn and Cindi Trainor that began in John\u27s office the next day and spilled out across the ensuing week. Below is the resulting document (CC by 3.0). It’s meant to be grand, optimistic, obvious, and thankful to and for our users, communities, and the tireless librarians who work the front lines every day, upholding the purpose of the Library
